'Romeo and Juliet' (Kenneth MacMillan)
National Ballet of Japan
Sunday, 20th October 2019
New National Theatre, Tokyo (Japan)
YONEZAWA Yui (米沢唯)(Juliet Capulet) acts naturally and excellently. Her Juliet is pretty and mischievous character girl at Act 1, and ambiguity with both strength and weakness at Act 3. Especially Yui’s Juliet at Act 3 is incredible.
Her natural act is based on orthodox style beauty of ballet. Yui’s dancing with Count Paris is filled with empty beauty, for example her progress backward on point.
YONEZAWA Yui usually focuses style beauty. Her real Juliet is composed of (of course, intense act, but) style beauty. Her act teaches me that Juliet cannot be acted by acting skill alone.
MOTOJIMA Miwa(本島美和)(Lady Capulet) is also incredible acting at the lamentation of Tybalt’s death.
FUKUOKA Yudai(福岡雄大)(Tybalt) is the best Tybalt all over ballet in Japan. His Tybalt is filles with intimidation. I cannot believe Yudai’s Tybalt is beaten by the Romeo.
KINOSHITA Yoshito(木下嘉人)(Mercutio), HAYAMI Shogo(速水渉悟)(Benvolio), and TERADA Asako(寺田亜沙子), MASUDA Yuko(益田裕子), YAMADA Utako(山田歌子)(Three Harlots) are all excellent.
SEKI Akiho(関晶帆)(Rosaline) is excellent stage presence of her beauty and cold treat for Romeo. I think that she is best Rosaline of National Ballet of Japan.
